oh how the mighty have fallen

so - where does one draw the line between freedom and safety. And is it fair to assume that just because people say they have your safety at heart , that they really do ?

Call me cynical , but I find the whole US reaction to this Wikileaks embarrassment a trifle vain. Who the hell are they to decide that we don't need to know about things in our own countries ? Who the hell are they to decide what's best for the rest of the world ? Who is Hillary Clinton except some snotty woman who thinks that because she says so , it must be so .... ?

Anyone with 'Top Secret' across their communications deserves what they get when they start using 'Top Secret' to cover up things that have no business being 'Top Secret' . I couldn't give a rats ass if the US relations are damaged with Australia , The UK , or any other country for that matter. It's about bloody time to be frank. We should have marched to our own drumbeat decades ago.

I don't buy for one second that peoples lives are in more danger now - than they were a month ago. Any tech savvy person with enough determination and intelligence  could find whatever the hell they wanted with google earth and a little snooping and deduction into publicly available records. Without hacking into anything .

WikiLeaks does not make anyone more at risk . Since when does knowing how little they really think of Nelson Mandela make it risky for any American? Since when does knowing that they can't even get their diplomats to spy properly for them overseas make it any less safe for John Doe in Wichita to go to the grocery store ? Since when does knowing that they spy on the UN make it unsafe for anyone else except the  american rats that approved and did the aforementioned spying activities. Give me a break, the only thing at risk here , really and truly , is Uncle Sam's ego.

Cry wolf again , c'mon Hillary - I dare you , say it again, tell us how all those 'brave' american soldiers are at risk now , tell us how civilians are at risk from the communists . Oh no wait - sorry - I'm in the wrong decade...! Now was it terrorists , communists , or hippies again - who  are we fighting right now  ?

The US puts their own people at risk every day by the stupid decisions their administration has made not to mention to the Bush family's personal vendetta in the Middle East. They allow thousands upon thousands of people to be persecuted and die in Africa and China every day because it does not serve their agenda to intervene , or invade. I stopped believing they were humanitarian the minute they invaded Afghanistan , and ignored the Congo and Zimbabwe. Both of which have no oil , and therefore do nothing to affect US trade relations , or economic policy.

Humanitarian my ass. It's all about oil , and money - I lost what little respect I had for the nation the second I realised that the 'Humanitarian' angle was nothing more than an excuse to go make sure that they still controlled enough oil to run the world economy.

I do feel really sorry for Obama, he seems to have the right attitude and  has tried  moving the US in the right directions ( honesty , openness and transparency) and it's a genuine shame that he happens to be the sitting duck in the Oval Office while all America's prideful arrogance comes crashing down around it. It is really sad that he'll be remembered not as the first black president , but as the guy who copped the blame when all the dirty laundry got aired.

Mostly , I hope that they don't get it right to smear Julian and that WikiLeaks will continue enlighten us as to their rudeness and stupidity the world over. I say , bring it on , publish the lot - lets get all the details on  how they tortured innocent teenagers in guantanamo, and then hid it from the red cross. Lets read all about how they continue to collude in Zimbabwe to smuggle out blood diamonds that fund Mugabe and his cronies. Lets read up on all the countries that they sell arms to , and then turn a blind eye to the human rights abuses because it would hurt their pockets more to stop it.

America is an economy based on war. If they are not directly involved in a war , then they are selling arms or funding war in other countries, and they will not ever support a world without war ,it would hurt their economy too much. Humanitarian goals don't fit with the American Way. which is to make all the money , stand on the people you need to , and to live in your ivory tower while the world burns around you. Oh yes, and to maintain the facade that you actually give a damn ....

The joy of being a transplanted citizen

Yeah That ugly 'something has happened back home' experience has reared up again this week.  My mom had a fall, and has broken her wrist . It's a clean break, but a bad one, and she may need surgery.  *speechless*  So it's on the mend , and the doctors are trying something to help it heal without surgery first , she will go back in a week for more X-rays to see if it's working, and if not, then into theatre she will go.  The most frustrating part of all of this - is that there is absolutely nothing I can do . Nothing.  Helplessness is not a feeling that sits well in my Type A , fixer, doer , go-getter mentality.  Sigh.  I can let go of many things ...my family, my friends and those I love being in pain isn't usually one of them.  Human emotions are such raw things, and it constantly amazes me how they smack us down so completely whenever we feel like we have a handle on this thing called Life.

A toast to taking up a new opportunity

When you're asked to propose a toast, and there's no person that you're toasting. Well, first you panic. Then you write furiously, and then edit furiously. And then you scrap your first 2 ideas. And somewhere around the 2nd or 3rd draft of the final idea : this is what you end up with. At least on paper anyway. A couple of sentences got left out here and there to save time. But this is pretty much the toast I gave this week at my Toastmasters meeting.  I  recently met a woman online in a business women support group, who's business involves selling custom shoes online. She relayed to me the story of a Venture Capitalist who declined to invest in her company, because " women will never pay more than $500 for a pair of shoes" . She tells me that he did call her back the next day to take up the missed opportunity, after his wife educated him somewhat on the world of woman's shoes and shopping habits. It was too late however, as she had already taken investmen...

'Finishing The Race' : my toastmasters Ice breaker went well last night

Not to brag ... Oh who am I kidding, I'm bragging ;) . My Ice Breaker speech went excellently well I thought.  I prepared, practised over and over, even tweaking which stories about me I wanted to tell and how I would tell them.
