So here I am - 3 weeks into the new me , exercising under supervision , feeling like a million bucks , and 'BANG' it hits me . A sore back . Some referred pain down my leg, and numb tingly toes when I stretch my hamstring.
To say that I am not a happy camper , would be like saying a few drops of rain is not hurricane . It's an inane, obvious , understatement which cannot possibly tell the full story of my disappointment and frustration.
Now those of you who follow my facebook posts , will know that I suffered some back issues late last year , which took me a few months to get over . You may also know that the doctor put me onto heavy doses of vitamin D for my back aches .(As a side note , you should google back pain , vitamin D, and Saudi Arabia - it's a very interesting read. )
On with my story - the vitamin D did not help - and once I started with the numbness in my toes and feet , I scooted off to the doctor poste haste for a follow up.
After having a CT scan , it turns out , I have what is called a bulging disc. And the bulged disc is squashing a nerve , and the squashed nerve is now the cause of the leg pain , and numbness and tingly toes. (Sciatica for those with a more technical/medical/scientific inclination)
As a result of the bulge, I am no longer allowed to run. And I cannot do any high impact exercises. At least not until my core strength , and back muscle strength is much, much better.
So I have been ordered off all exercise , except for Pilates (Anita can expect me back in class ASAP) , until after Monday , when the physio will evaluate me , and determine which exercises I can safely do. I will then be taking the list of banned exercises, or the list of approved exercises ( whichever is the shorter ) along to Cory, so we can continue on my journey of sorting out these extra 10kg that need to be shifted in the middle of all this back pain.
It's so frustrating .
And it makes me want to find something to punch. And I would , if it weren't for the actual punching that is, it's such a bugger when you're just not capable of violence.
I'm settling for a nice glass of Shiraz from a local winery tonight; it's not going to sort out my back , but it's certainly making it easier to to be a person at this moment.
