And we start all over again ...

Amazing how when you think your life is boring that the Universe, Murphy or whatever higher power mythology you subscribe to suddenly takes things into a different direction.

My personal trainer kind of fizzled out .... After he got a day job somewhere else , and we moved my sessions to 4:30 pm instead of my preferred mid morning slot it went a bit pear-shaped from there.

Between my onset of flu , excessive allergies , and being stood up a couple of times because he couldn't get back from his other job , or there was traffic, or whatever was the story .... I just decided to leave well enough alone.

So I kind of took the month off over February while my mother was visiting. I wanted to spend every possible minute that I didn't have to work,  with her. And I did.

And it was fabulous !

I can honestly say that I feel far more settled in my new home , now that I've shown my mother around Melbourne and a bit of Victoria . Well , lets be honest , a lot of Victoria. I think my mother saw more of Victoria in her short 4 weeks than a lot of Melbourne city dwellers who were born and bred here.

Be that as it may , I digress from the post , which is actually about starting up with excising again, and the new personal trainer that I have engaged in my quest for perfection, absolution , salvation and a good set off rocking abs.

Now , this is the difference between someone who treats themselves like a business , and places value in what they do, and someone who doesn't.

Cory - by all of my accounts , a very good PT , but really kind of meh when it came to the more business like aspects of this profession.

Maxine, on the other hand , is organised with debit order forms, text messages reminding you about your sessions, and all sorted out on the business front. So far , so good .

Maxine also comes with a wealth of experience in injury rehabilitation , so I am fairly confident that my slew of injuries and bad habits are in good hands.

We've trained twice ,so far  I've been gently instructed on my cardio instructions, and when and how I should exercise outside of our PT sessions. She's organised. And I like it.

I will keep you updated.

The joy of being a transplanted citizen

Yeah That ugly 'something has happened back home' experience has reared up again this week.  My mom had a fall, and has broken her wrist . It's a clean break, but a bad one, and she may need surgery.  *speechless*  So it's on the mend , and the doctors are trying something to help it heal without surgery first , she will go back in a week for more X-rays to see if it's working, and if not, then into theatre she will go.  The most frustrating part of all of this - is that there is absolutely nothing I can do . Nothing.  Helplessness is not a feeling that sits well in my Type A , fixer, doer , go-getter mentality.  Sigh.  I can let go of many things ...my family, my friends and those I love being in pain isn't usually one of them.  Human emotions are such raw things, and it constantly amazes me how they smack us down so completely whenever we feel like we have a handle on this thing called Life.

A toast to taking up a new opportunity

When you're asked to propose a toast, and there's no person that you're toasting. Well, first you panic. Then you write furiously, and then edit furiously. And then you scrap your first 2 ideas. And somewhere around the 2nd or 3rd draft of the final idea : this is what you end up with. At least on paper anyway. A couple of sentences got left out here and there to save time. But this is pretty much the toast I gave this week at my Toastmasters meeting.  I  recently met a woman online in a business women support group, who's business involves selling custom shoes online. She relayed to me the story of a Venture Capitalist who declined to invest in her company, because " women will never pay more than $500 for a pair of shoes" . She tells me that he did call her back the next day to take up the missed opportunity, after his wife educated him somewhat on the world of woman's shoes and shopping habits. It was too late however, as she had already taken investmen...

'Finishing The Race' : my toastmasters Ice breaker went well last night

Not to brag ... Oh who am I kidding, I'm bragging ;) . My Ice Breaker speech went excellently well I thought.  I prepared, practised over and over, even tweaking which stories about me I wanted to tell and how I would tell them.
